Neurofeedback for PTSD

Teaching the brain to calm down after trauma

Post-traumatic stress isn’t a weakness or a failure — it’s the nervous system doing its best to protect you after overwhelming experiences. Neurofeedback offers a non-invasive, body-based approach that helps the brain learn new patterns of regulation at its own pace.

Understanding PTSD

PTSD can develop after experiences that overwhelm the nervous system’s capacity to cope. These experiences may be acute or ongoing, recent or long past.

Individuals with PTSD may experience:

  • Feeling constantly on edge or hyper-alert

  • Emotional numbness or disconnection

  • Intrusive memories or difficulty relaxing

  • Sleep disturbances or nightmares

  • Strong reactions to situations that feel unsafe, even when they are not

These responses are not signs of weakness — they reflect a nervous system that learned to stay vigilant in order to survive.

HOW NEUROFEEDBACK SUPPORTS PTSD

Neurofeedback works by providing the brain with real-time information about its own activity. When the brain begins to shift toward more regulated and flexible patterns, it is gently reinforced.

Over time, this learning process may help the nervous system:

  • Spend less time in survival-based states

  • Recover more easily from stressors

  • Improve emotional regulation

  • Support more restful sleep

  • Increase overall resilience

Neurofeedback does NOT require clients to relive or talk through traumatic experiences in order to be effective.

A Trauma-Informed Approach

At Integrative Wellness Clinic of Nevada, neurofeedback is approached with sensitivity, flexibility, and respect for each individual’s nervous system.

Sessions are:

  • Non-invasive

  • Client-paced

  • Carefully monitored and adjusted

  • Designed to support safety and regulation

We recognize that trauma-affected nervous systems can be highly sensitive, and we tailor training accordingly.

Who Neurofeedback for PTSD May Support

Neurofeedback for PTSD may be helpful for:

  • Adults or teens with a PTSD diagnosis

  • Individuals with complex or developmental trauma

  • People who feel “stuck” in fight, flight, or freeze responses

  • Those who have tried talk therapy but still feel dysregulated

  • Individuals seeking a body-based, non-verbal approach

Every training plan is individualized and based on a comprehensive assessment.

Neurofeedback and Therapy

Neurofeedback can be used as a standalone intervention or alongside therapy. Many individuals find that as their nervous system becomes more regulated, they are better able to engage in therapeutic work, daily life, and relationships.

As a clinic founded by a licensed marriage and family therapist, we value ethical, integrative care and collaboration when appropriate.

Getting Started

Training begins with a comprehensive neurofeedback assessment to better understand how your brain and nervous system are functioning.

(If you are not a good fit we will provide you with next steps of what could be helpful! We pride ourselves on being helpful even if it doesn’t benefit us!)

From there, we collaborate with you to determine whether neurofeedback is an appropriate fit and what type of training approach may be most supportive

Neurofeedback is a learning-based process. Individual responses vary, and no specific outcomes can be guaranteed.
